National Disabilities

Welcome Those with Disabilities During National Disabilities Awareness Month

The many ways people with and without disabilities come together to form strong, diverse communities is highlighted each March during Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.

The campaign seeks to raise awareness about the inclusion of people with developmental disabilities in all facets of community life, according to the National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities. Awareness of the barriers that people with disabilities still sometimes face in connecting to the communities in which they live is also highlighted.

There are five types of developmental disabilities, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), cerebral palsy (CP), intellectual disability (ID), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and learning disabilities.

It is crucial for people with developmental disabilities to get the appropriate treatment to live their lives as independently as possible. They often appear in early childhood or infancy but may not be noticed until they interfere with daily activities

I applaud that effort! I’ve been tutoring children and young adults with developmental disabilities for years, and I know that these inspiring students can achieve much in their lives, including college and careers! For more information visit https://www.nacdd.org.
